The Tobacco Treatment Service (TTS) is a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals who are specially trained to help manage and treat tobacco use and dependence. We offer affordable state-of-the-art tobacco treatment services to all Massachusetts patients, employees, and other members of the community. Tobacco Treatment counselors provide patient-centered support and education in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way.

The Tobacco Treatment Service is the clinical arm of the Massachusetts General Hospital Tobacco Research and Treatment Center (TRTC), which was founded in 1992 by Dr. Nancy Rigotti to identify and disseminate innovative tobacco treatment strategies for the health care setting and to mentor new investigators in tobacco treatment and policy research.
Services offered by the Tobacco Treatment Service (TTS)
MGH Inpatient Services
The in-patient service advises patients and/or staff on pharmacotherapy to manage withdrawal while in the hospital. Counselors also provide bedside counseling to those who are interested in staying quit after discharge.
The TTS runs outpatient cessation group programs onsite in response to demand. The service also offers onsite groups upon request for companies or corporations with a minimum of 10 participants.

Professional Development Services
Dr. Rigotti and her team provide training and in-service education to health care providers on current guidelines for evidence- based tobacco treatment.
On request the team offers consultation and technical expertise to help individual clinicians and medical practices address tobacco use with their patients
