The
physicians and nurses in our department treat a large number of patients from
outside of Massachusetts and from countries outside of the United States. We
clearly recognize that there are unique difficulties in traveling such long
distances.
Our expert support staff work to minimize the number of trips one must make to our main campus. We do our best to arrange appointments with other providers for times and dates that are mutually convenient. In addition, although a patient’s primary care provider (PCP) may be from outside of the MGH network or even from another country, we keep that doctor informed of the patient’s course of treatment.
Patients coming from out of state may do several things to make
their trip easier:
• Confirm driving
directions to the MGH in advance
• Ensure that any reports, radiology films, or pathology slides coming
from outside of the MGH have been received by us prior to the
appointment
• Write down any questions for the doctor in advance, in order to maximize
the face-to-face time with the doctor during the appointment
Both the Partners International Center and the MGH Interpreters Service are excellent resources for international patients.
