In
order to provide the best in patient care, the Urology Service is subdivided
into disease areas and staffed by physicians with special competence in these
areas.
Some disease centers are staffed primarily by a urologist, while others are
multidisciplinary and include, in addition to a urologist, physicians from
other medical disciplines with special expertise in urologic disease.
An example of a multidisciplinary center is urologic
cancer. Urology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, psychiatry and social
service work closely together to provide a coordinated approach to urologic
cancer care.
Infertility
is another center where urology and gynecology work closely together to provide
the best opportunity for fertility for the couple.
Urodynamics/neuro-urology is an example of an area primarily staffed by urology
specialists. A urologic nurse clinical specialist and two urology physicians
with special expertise in this area work closely together to provide the highest
quality urology diagnostic evaluations.
