Abnormal PSA
The Urology Service provides for consultation with patients to determine the need to pursue an abnormal PSA count. If further diagnostic testing is indicated, imaging capabilities are available in the office to define the prostate, and if needed, image-directed prostate biopsies can be performed simultaneously.

Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
Diagnostic equipment and medical and surgical prostate therapies are available to address problems of voiding dysfunction related to enlarged prostate growth.

Erectile Dysfunction/Impotence
Erectile dysfunction diagnosis and instruction of the patient in specific impotence treatment modalities occurs in a special erectile dysfunction clinic, which is separate from the other clinics to allow for privacy and confidentiality. Causes of impotence and erectile dysfunction treatment options including medication and surgical therapies are available and are addressed in this erectile dysfunction clinic.

Female Urology
Problems of continence and pelvic floor dysfunction in women are addressed by specially trained urologic physicians. Sophisticated diagnostic equipment to define the problem and the latest medical and surgical urology treatments for the disorders are available.

General Urology
Urologic disorders not included in one of the other subdivisions of the department are addressed by a generalist. Such urology disorders would include but are not limited to urinary tract infections, dysfunctional voiding, hernia, benign scrotal conditions, undesended testes and vasectomy.

Incontinence/Voiding Dysfunction
Female incontinenceissues are addressed in the Female Urology Division by a specially trained urologic physician. For males, incontinence evaluations are performed in the General Urology Division. The specific diagnosis may require testing in the Urodynamics/Neuro-urology Center. The full spectrum of incontinence treatment is available including medical therapy biofeedback and surgical procedures including the artificial sphincter.

Infertility Center
We believe that the problem of infertility is best approached as a couple's issue. Thus, the infertility clinic is staffed by urologists and gynecologists so that all aspects of an infertility problem may be dealt with in a coordinated fashion. Surgical correction of male and female reproductive infertility problems and in vitro fertilization are available.

Laparoscopic, Endourologic and Minimally Invasive Surgery
We at the MGH have the "operating room of the future" in which special facilities and equipment have been designed to facilitate minimally invasive surgical procedures. Examples of procedures which would be performed by this group include laparoscopic removal of the kidney, laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, percutaneous and endoscopic stone removal and minimally invasive correction of congenital abnormalities of the kidney.

Reconstructive Urology
Procedures performed by physicians with expertise in this area include neobladder construction in which a new bladder is made when the native bladder must be removed, reconstructive surgery for penile cancer, restoration of the male external genitalia injured by infection or trauma and repair of urethral strictures.

Stone Disease
The treatment of kidney stones and bladder stones is accomplished by minimally invasive techniques. The entire spectrum of technology and expertise is available at the MGH. A state-of-the-art shock wave lithotripter is permanently located on site and is used to break up kidney and bladder stones without the need for an invasive procedure. Percutaneous, endourologic and laser technology allow for the removal of stones without the need for an incision or, in selected cases, using only a keyhole incision.

Urodynamic/Neuro-urology Testing
Patients with complex voiding dysfunction disorders may be referred by their physician to this facility. A clinical nurse specialist and two neuro-urology physicians staff the area. State-of-the-art video urodynamic and biofeedback equipment allow for a definition of the cause of the voiding dysfunction and recommendations for specific treatment.

Urology Cancer Center
This center has physicians from the services of urology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology and psychiatry. These physicians have special training and experience in all aspects of urologic cancer care. Social service and nursing complete the professional compliment. There is a Multidisciplinary Urology Cancer Clinic which meets twice weekly in which the appropriate physicians consult with each patient. This multidisciplinary service provides for coordinated and individualized urology cancer care. The expertise of many physicians is brought to bear on the problem so that the best approach for both common and rare conditions of urology cancer may be determined.

Vasectomy
Vasectomy procedures are performed in the office as an outpatient service by one of our staff urologists with special interest in vasectomy procedures.
