The
discovery of new knowledge for the diagnosis and treatment of urologic disease
is an important mission of this department.
The department maintains a basic research laboratory staffed by physicians from urology and pathology who have focused their research on urologic disease. The laboratory is involved in the molecular genetics of cancer and the regulation of cell growth.
To directly enhance patient care in the clinical mission, the service supports many clinical trials which patients may access when conventional treatments are not effective.
