Track and field champion Dave Galligani, 75, and gold medalist sprinter Dennis Melanson, 81, didn’t start running until they were older, but they are still seeing benefits to their health. “No matter what decade in life you start exercising, you’re better off than if you were to maintain a sedentary lifestyle,” says Aaron Baggish, MD, director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiovascular Performance Program in the Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke Care.
