Since its founding, the Fireman Vascular Center has maintained a steadfast commitment to delivering the highest quality vascular care. We developed a robust quality and safety program that is designed to ensure we are delivering the best vascular care to every patient.

The program is centered on several key initiatives, and we are continually expanding our efforts in partnership with the Edward P. Lawrence Center for Quality and Safety.  Selected initiatives include:

  • Developing a privileging and credentialing process to ensure that each patient sees the vascular specialist who is best suited to their individual needs
  • Building a data registry to track quality metrics for all carotid revascularization procedures performed at Mass General
  • Building an online tool to enable a multidisciplinary panel of physicians to review the full episode of care for peripheral artery disease patients
  • Assessing surgical/procedural appropriateness using the Procedure Order Entry (PrOE) tool developed at Mass General
  • Creating a tracking program to ensure that inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are appropriately retrieved in a timely fashion when indicated
  • Developing a personalized report card that provides patients the status of their individual risk factors while providing education on how to lower their risk for vascular disease
  • Running several multidisciplinary meetings to review and discuss complex cases
  • Developing reports to track key quality measures for each Integrated Care Program within the Fireman Vascular Center

These initiatives and others all form the foundation for us to fulfill our commitment to providing the top quality vascular care in the nation. The patients we serve inspire us to continually improve and expand our quality program.
