Natalia Rost, MD, MPH, director of MGH Acute Stroke Services, addressed the importance of a statewide approach to treating stroke patients during the American Heart Association’s Stroke Lobby Day event, “Together to End Stroke,” on Feb. 25 at the Massachusetts State House. “It is critical we advocate for coordination of resources and expertise along the continuum of stroke prevention, public awareness, emergency response, acute stroke diagnosis and treatment, in-hospital stroke care, recovery and continuous quality improvement initiatives,” said Rost.

Revere High School students Samantha Eligene and Kelsey Dupont also served as guest speakers at the event, sharing a poem they wrote about recognizing signs of stroke. Samantha and Kelsey are both MGH Youth Scholars who participated in a four-week stroke education series developed collaboratively among the MGH Stroke Service, the Institute for Heart, Vascular and Stroke Care and the MGH Center for Community Health.

The event also featured stroke survivors and advocates who came together to bring awareness to policymakers about stroke prevention and improving the quality of care stroke patients receive.
