Research
Laboratory Technologist
Under general supervision of the laboratory manager, senior level
staff member or faculty, the individual is expected to carry out research
activities of moderate complexity, requiring some professional training.
Researches and collects basic study data, as directed, through library investigation
and laboratory experiments with regard to specific research projects as
assigned. Records and graphically displays pertinent information obtained
from research activities through preparation of graphs, tables, statistical
summaries, illustrations and narrative reports. Provides information that
will typically be used as a basis for further investigation and/or for inclusion
in peer reviewed quality publication(s). Carries out a variety of moderately
complex laboratory techniques and procedures including but not limited to,
chromatography, electrophoresis, animal surgery, histology and cell culture
work, protein or nucleotide analysis, gene amplification, screening libraries
and genotyping. Operates and maintains a variety of moderately complex lab
equipment such as microscopes, scales, centrifuges, spectrophotometers,
and other scientific apparatus and equipment related to research activities.May
teach routine laboratory techniques such as sectioning, staining, assaying,
solution and media preparation to students and other research personnel.
Bachelor's Degree in Biological or Physical sciences plus 1 to 3 years supervised
laboratory experience required. An individual with an Associates degree
would be considered if they had extensive laboratory experience. Clink
