Offered: Offered July, October, January and April. This is a component of the three- month Women's and Children's Health course.
Enrollment: Maximum: 4
The clerkship is designed to provide an overview of the most important aspects of obstetrics and gynecology and includes an introduction to the sub-specialty areas of maternal-fetal medicine, infertility and gynecological oncology.
The primary objective is to provide students with a basic knowledge of those aspects of the care of women that are essential to future physicians in any specialty. Included is the fundamental clinical information and skills development necessary to care for the pregnant female and female patients with disorders of the reproductive system. Divided between gynecology and obstetrics, the clerkship provides experiences in ambulatory clinics, the operating room, inpatient units, and labor and delivery. One full day each week is devoted to comprehensive lectures. Students are supervised by physician faculty, certified nurse midwives, nursing and other professional staff, and house staff. Weekly, the students meet with the Course Director to review interesting clinical experiences and address any difficulties. The clerkship at the MGH allows students to participate in clinical care in a particularly close working relationship between faculty and students. |
