Director's Welcome

The designation of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine as a thematic center at MGH is a significant source of pride for my colleagues and for me. Those of us who have been working in this field for two decades or more feel privileged to have been part of the pioneering efforts to establish the foundations of basic science research and clinical applications of photomedicine. All of us feel the challenge of extending and enhancing the contributions of this laboratory as we enter the 21st century.

We expect the Wellman Center to continue to be a prolific source of important new basic understandings, new technologies, and capabilities that involve light. We will continue to pursue a "bi-directional", translational research agenda (toward clinical medicine and toward basic sciences). We look forward to collaborating with and creating value for the clinical and scientific communities at MGH, and beyond.
