I got my basic degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) and masters in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (MDS) in India. Following postdoctoral training at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore and National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, I am presently in a joint PhD-Residency program at Harvard.
My primary research interest is to understand the molecular mechanisms of photobiomodulation focusing on activation of a specific cytokine pathway, Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b). My previous work involved analyzing the effects of low power far infrared laser (904nm) irradiation in stimulating wound repair in human oral wounds. Further, my work unraveled a potential molecular mechanism involving the activation of the latent TGF-b complex, a key wound cytokine, through a non-thermal, conformation dependent mechanism.
