Before enrolling to Wellman Graduate Student Program I worked as research technologist at Wellman Center for Photomedicine. I performed research in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) that employs the combination of photosensitive agents and visible light to destroy microbial cells. Studies carried out in our laboratory showed that small targeted doses of PDT may also stimulate wound healing. We also found some evidence that low doses of light alone could help to combat non-healing wounds. I have decided to enroll to Wellman Graduate Student Program and my current project is devoted to the understanding of the effects of low level light on wound healing.
Pre-doctoral research at Wellman Center for photomedicine gives me the perfect opportunity to work at the world leading institution that brings together investigators from different areas of research (biology, chemistry, physics and medicine). All faculty members at Wellman are open for discussion, very helpful and collaborative. Graduate students have a possibility to present their data at the Wellman seminars as well as at the outside conferences. Pre-doctoral work here helps to become a part of research community.
