Job Coach - Transitions Teen Program Staff
YouthCare is hiring Job Coaches as staff for our new Transitions: Career Skill Development for Teens summer program. The program gives adolescents the opportunity to have an unpaid internship experience three days per week. The other two weekdays include college visits, team-building activities at Hale Reservation, educational presentations, direct career skill instruction, and therapeutic group meetings. Each Job Coach will be responsible for training, supporting, and evaluating 2-3 teens at one internship work site as well as facilitating their participation with the larger teen group during skill-instruction sessions and other structured activities. The Transitions program staff will include four job coaches, a site supervisor, and a group clinician who will work together to support 8-11 teenage program participants.
Job Description
The Job Coach is responsible for supervising a group of 2-3 teenagers, aged 15-18, at an internship work site three days per week. On other weekdays, the job coach will co-facilitate college visits, team-building activities, career skill instruction, and other structured activities for the 8-11 adolescents in the program. Responsibilities include:
- applying various interventions to help adolescents achieve social, organizational, and career goals (training provided)
- supervising and supporting 2-3 teens as well as the larger group of teens during therapeutic group meetings, ropes course, educational presentations, college tours and more
- working with program staff to support teenagers during group career skill workshops; option to help plan and lead workshops
- maintaining regular and as-needed communication with families
- providing training and support for adolescents at an internship site, including identifying necessary accommodations, performing task analysis and instruction, designing supportive visuals and checklists for the worksite, providing verbal and written feedback, and ensuring all aspects of the job are done to the employer’s satisfaction and safety precautions are observed at all times
- transporting teens in personal car (reimbursement provided based on mileage)
- collaborating with other job coaches and year-round staff members
Program activities include: internship site work, educational presentations, career planning, career skill training, college visits, team-building activities, and lunch outings. The Job Coach will help to lead and support these activities with the option to plan activities if desired. This is a 35 hour per week paid position for 7 weeks. Job coaches are additionally paid for a 40-hour pre-season training week. Pre-program and ongoing training and supervision are provided by experienced clinical staff. Internships may be arranged for applicants in related fields.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in, or graduate of, Bachelor’s or Master's program, preferably in a related field (e.g., social work, speech therapy, education, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, occupational therapy, or psychology).
- Prior experience working with children and adolescents; experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred.
- Ability to maintain positive relationship with adolescents as well as professional communication with work site employers and employees.
- Ability to prioritize and teach job responsibilities.
- Desire to provide direct instruction in social, organizational, and career skills to adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Previous corporate work experience and/or customer service experience may be helpful.
