Group Leaders
Job Description
The Group Leader is responsible for working with an Assistant Group Leader to facilitate a group of approximately 6 children during a variety of outdoor and indoor age-appropriate structured camp activities. Other responsibilities include:
- applying various interventions to help children achieve social goals (training provided)
- supervising and supporting the group during camp activities such as: social skills groups, ropes course, and art; and collaborating with activity leaders
- presenting daily social communication lessons
- planning and leading structured recreational activities during unscheduled activity periods
- maintaining regular and as-needed communication with families
- providing support and mentoring to the Assistant Group Leader
The Group Leader will have opportunities to design activities based on their interests and experiences. Camp activities generally include: hiking, swimming, boating, ropes, art, recreational games, field trips, and more! The Group Leader has the opportunity to participate in an overnight camping experience. Pre-camp and ongoing training and supervision is provided by experienced clinical staff. We are sometimes able to offer supervised internships. This is a 40 hour per week paid position for 8 weeks, including orientation and training.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in, or graduate of, a Bachelor or Master's program, preferably in a related field (e.g., social work, speech therapy, education, counseling).
- Prior experience working with children, including significant experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or other special needs.
- Desire to help children feel safe, succeed, and have fun!
- Desire and ability to work with children in outdoor settings.
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Interest and experience in designing and leading activities is helpful.

Group Leaders at the Charlestown site who are also lifeguards (or willing to be trained) may receive additional compensation.

Assistant Group Leaders
Job Description

- supervising and supporting the group during camp activities such as: social skills groups, ropes course, and art; and collaborating with activity leaders

- planning and leading structured recreational activities during unscheduled activity periods
- maintaining regular and as-needed communication with families
The Assistant Group Leader position is designed to provide training and experience to staff who have experience working with children, and who are interested in developing their clinical skills for working with children with autism spectrum disorders. Camp activities generally include: hiking, swimming, boating, ropes, art, recreational games, field trips, and more! The Assistant Group Leader will have an opportunity to participate in an overnight camping experience. Pre-camp and ongoing camp training and supervision is provided by experienced clinical staff. We are sometimes able to offer supervised internships. This is a 40 hour per week paid position for 8 weeks, including orientation and training.
