YouthCare Parent Workshops

YouthCare offers monthly parent workshops for parents of children with Asperger's Syndrome and related challenges. Each session covers the scheduled topic for approximately one hour then allows time for questions and discussion. The workshops take place in our Wellesley and Charlestown locations.

2007-2008 Parent Workshop Schedule

Charlestown Location:

Mondays, October 22 (Part 1) and December 3 (Part 2)
Behavior Management:  The ABCs of Managing Behavior at Home
This two-part workshop will focus on concrete strategies and other approaches for dealing with behavioral issues at home. Participants must sign-up for both sessions. Facilitator: Jennifer Harber, Ed.M.

Wellesley Location:

Wednesdays, October 10 (Part 1) and November 7 (Part 2)
Behavior Management: The ABCs of Managing Behavior at Home.
Concrete strategies and other approaches for dealing with behavioral issues at home. Participants must sign-up for both sessions. Facilitator: Jennifer Harber, Ed.M.  

Tuesday, November 13 - Understanding Psychological and Neuropsychological Assessment for Children/Adolescents with ASD.
This workshop will focus on how to understand psychological and neuropsychological testing and reports as they apply to children with Asperger's Disorder.  We will review several reports (provided by parents in this group) of AS children and discuss implications for treatment and planning. Facilitator: Albert Cotugno, Ph.D.

Wednesdays, January 16 (Part 1) and February 6 (Part 2)
Disclosure:  To Tell or Not to Tell
Why, when & how to share diagnostic information with your child and siblings/peers.  Developing a child’s self-awareness without using labels. Participants must sign-up for both sessions. Facilitator: Dot Lucci, M.Ed. C.A.G.S.

Tuesday, March 4 -  Siblings: Balancing the Social and Emotional Needs of all the Children in the Family. 
Techniques and strategies to address the complicated needs of having an ASD child with neuro-typical siblings. Facilitator:  Albert Cotugno, Ph.D.

Wednesday, April 9 (Part 1) and May 14 (Part 2)
Supporting Teens in their Social Development

This workshop takes a look at the unique social and developmental challenges of adolescents with autism spectrum disorders. Participants must sign-up for both sessions. Facilitator:  Scott McLeod, Ph.D.

Note: This workshop, originally scheduled as a two-part series has been restructured as a one-part workshop. The May 14th date has been cancelled.

The fee for the April 9th workshop is: $20 for YouthCare families and $25 for non-YouthCare families.
