Eric Nadel, MD, director of the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency, was honored with the 2019 MGH Disability Champion Award.
Dr. Eric S. Nadel, is an attending physician at Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine. He graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and he completed his residency in emergency medicine at Boston City Hospital, where he was chief resident in his final year. He is also an associate professor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Nadel served as the Residency Director for the BWH/MGH Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) from 1999-2020, Dr. Nadel created an innovative curriculum to establish the highest caliber residency training program. He is noted for the creation of a simulation and seminar based curriculum, replacing traditional lectures, allowing for small group teaching, active learning, and multiple educational modalities.
Dr. Nadel is transitioning into his new role as Vice Chair of Education in the Departments of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital as well as to a leadership role in the office of graduate medical education at Mass General Brigham.
Dr. Nadel has served on the Mass General Brigham Education Committee, BWH Education Committee, and MGH Executive Committee on Teaching and Education, and the Task Force for Compensation for Education at Mass General Brigham, and has served as an examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). He is also associate director of Graduate Medical Education for Mass General Brigham System.

Dr. Nadel is a founder and section editor of the Case Presentations of the Harvard EM Residency in the Journal of Emergency Medicine, has co-authored 80 case reports, and mentored over 50 residents in manuscript preparation. He has edited Blueprints in Emergency Medicine, a USMLE board review book, and mentored resident authors though publication of 2 editions. He also has co-edited Adams Emergency Medicine, an innovative master educator textbook, which is used by many programs nationally.
