About Arun Aneja, MD, PhD
Arun Aneja, MD, PhD, is a board-certified orthopaedic trauma surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal care. Originally from Greenville, North Carolina, Dr. Aneja obtained his undergraduate and medical school degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then obtained a Ph.D. in clinical health sciences and completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Aneja’s doctoral research focused on the use of mesenchymal stem cells in fracture care for patients with osteoporosis. He completed an oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago and an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Wake Forest University.
For the eight years prior to coming to Mass General, Dr. Aneja had been teaching as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma at the University of Kentucky. He currently serves as the director of orthopaedic trauma research at Mass General and is a nationally recognized leader in orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Aneja serves on numerous national professional association committees, including the Devices, Biologics, and Technology committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS) and the research committee for the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). He is a committed educator and clinician, serving as faculty and chair for numerous AO and OTA resident courses. Dr. Aneja is a leading orthopaedic trauma researcher who has been awarded several million dollars in grant funding, authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, and given over 100 talks nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to orthopedic trauma care.

Research
Dr. Aneja's research has been funded by governmental and professional organizations, including the United States Department of Defense, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the American Academy of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. His research laboratory performs prospective clinical trials with the shared goal of improving the standards of care for all orthopaedic trauma patients, using evidence-based medicine. Lab research areas of focus include preventing fracture-related infections, decreasing opioid usage, improving geriatric fracture care, and building knowledge of all extremity fractures.
