Dialysis Access Program
The Dialysis Access Program at Massachusetts General Hospital offers innovative dialysis access placement strategies and expert management for the long-term care of dialysis access.
Our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, interventional radiologists, nurses and coordinators provide care 24 hours a day for patients in need of emergent, short-term and long-term dialysis access.
We provide options for both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in children and adults, through a combination of sophisticated interventional radiologic procedures and surgical interventions. These options include:
- Primary fistulas
- Grafts
- Composite grafts and stents
- Laparoscopically placed peritoneal dialysis catheters
- Revision of problematic existing access
Team members ensure that hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients receive prompt and personal care, in coordination with each patient's home dialysis units and primary nephrologists.
