A new way to give

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY: Slavin, at left, with Durkin

Collaboration is key when it comes to providing the best possible care for the thousands of patients who walk through the doors of the MGH every year. In the spirit of working together to improve the lives of patients, their families and the community, MGH President Peter L. Slavin, MD, and Michael K. Durkin, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, announced a new collaboration this week – My Giving Helps: The MGH Fund + United Way Employee Campaign.

The combined campaign will take place from Sept. 4 through Sept. 28. During this time, MGHers will have the chance to support important efforts across the hospital through donations to the MGH Fund and to contribute to community-based organizations that support the region’s children, youth and families through United Way.

“Improving the health and well-being of the diverse communities we serve is an important part of Mass General’s mission,” says Slavin. “My Giving Helps celebrates our commitment to that mission by asking our employees to consider how their giving can provide 360 degrees of support to our patients and their families.”

Employees may designate their gift to the MGH Fund or United Way or to both. Donations can be made through the campaign website as a one-time gift at any time or via payroll deduction during the month of September.

“United Way consistently receives an outpouring of generosity from the caring staff at MGH,” says Durkin. “With this new campaign, we look forward to strengthening United Way’s relationship with an institution that shares our commitment to building healthy communities.”

Throughout the summer, the My Giving Helps campaign will host fun events for MGH employees, beginning with the chance to dunk hospital leadership during the My Giving Helps Dunk Tank at the June 28 Employee Summer Picnic.
