A Message From Merit Cudkowicz, MD, Chief, Neurology Service, Director, ALS Clinic

ALS One - Earlier this month, the ALS team met with the ALS One and the MDA here at Mass General. ALS ONE was initiated in January of this year by Kevin Gosnell, an ALS patient with an aggressive form of ALS. Sadly, Kevin passed away just a few days after this meeting. It was so moving to have him and his family at this meeting. Kevin formed ALS One to bring together leading ALS researchers-ALS TDI, UMass Medical School, Compassionate Care ALS and MGH - to try to find treatments for people with ALS.

Since its inception, ALS One has secured $6 million in commitments for research and clinical care. In just 7 month, proposals have been written, reviewed and funded. The team already has held monthly research meetings, improved coordinated clinical care for patients and is starting a MA based central IRB process for our trials. We've also started a new Ibudilast trial in MA, and created a new ALS One license plate-my husband and I already signed up to get two! Click here if you'd like one.

We are fortunate to have amazing patients and families like the Gosnells to work together with to provide excellence in care and research.
