Meet our collaborative team of doctors, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) and critical care nurses in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Our certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are licensed, registered, advanced-practice nurses who have completed a post-graduate certificate or master’s degree in anesthesia. They practice under the general supervision of a clinical director and review patients' medical history, assist in selection of the type of anesthesia used for specific procedures, administer anesthetics, monitor patients during procedures and provide immediate post-anesthesia care.

Our critical care nurses have extensive backgrounds in critical care and have been working within the Cardiac Anesthesia Division since the beginning of cardiac surgical care at Mass General. They work with our team of anesthesiologists to provide specialized care to our patients, not just in cardiac but during additional surgical procedures where anesthetic care occurs. Critical care nurses also play a crucial role in the education of our residents, CRNAs and faculty, and they provide Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) recertification for the entire department.
