The Faculty Development Program in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (DACCPM) at Massachusetts General Hospital provides current faculty members with the skills to grow personally and professionally in their career. We also offer many opportunities for employees to advance in their career.
The New Faculty Development Program group meets monthly in a small group setting to discuss various academic, clinical and administrative topics. The goal of this curriculum is to continue to provide the necessary resources to build successful, enjoyable and highly productive careers in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (DACCPM). Each new faculty member is also partnered with another new faculty member with whom they can share experiences, questions, resources and concerns.Examples of meeting topics include:
To recruit, retain and develop the highest quality faculty members and help each other grow personally and professionally.
To be a department in which every member feels highly invested in their career, and can bring their best to their role within the department, institution and larger community.
During a portion of the allotted education time on Thursday mornings, usually from 8 am – 9 am, the DACCPM holds faculty workshops. The sessions are targeted towards engaging faculty anesthesiologists and CRNAs. A curriculum has been created covering clinical, research, academic and teaching topics. Core clinical skills for all faculty members have been identified, and corresponding hands-on and didactic sessions were created. Examples of past sessions include:
Every faculty member has an annual career conference with either their division chief or Principal Investigator. These career conferences provide an opportunity to focus on and track career development. During these conferences, faculty members can be expected to discuss their academic goals (prior year and ongoing), clinical work, teaching scores, quality and safety metrics and other areas of professional development.
Every faculty member should have the opportunity to be recognized for their academic achievements. We have a dedicated administrative team to help determine promotion-readiness and provide support throughout every step of the process. Faculty members are encouraged to engage with the promotions infrastructure at any time.
If you have any questions or would like more information on this program, please contact Allison Doney, Administrative Manager.
