About Chandrika Kurpad, MS, LCGC

Ms. Kurpad is a licensed and certified genetic counselor who joined the Center for Cancer Risk Assessment in 2019. She earned a master’s degree in microbiology and immunology from Indiana University in 1997 and worked in cancer research for several years. In 2016, she earned a master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then worked at the Bruno Cancer Center at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham Alabama and built the cancer genetic counseling program there. As part of the CCRA, Ms. Kurpad sees patients in both the Breast/Ovarian and Gastrointestinal Cancer Genetics clinics. She has a love of teaching and helping high school and undergraduate students learn about genetic counseling as a profession. Additionally, Ms. Kurpad is passionate about promoting the importance of being aware of one’s family history and has presented on this topic at support groups in Alabama. Her research interests include family communication and uptake of cascade testing.
