Boston College Hockey Players Hand Out Teddy Bears

TRA Visit

Boston College goaltender Chris Venti and MGHfC patient Brittany McPherson, 14, share smiles and teddy bears.

Smiles abounded in the pediatric inpatient units on June 15 when members of the 2012 National Champion Boston College Men’s Ice Hockey Team handed out teddy bears in honor of Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Teddy Bear Celebration Event. The visit launched a new relationship with the TRA’s Teddy’s Bears for Kids – New England Chapter.

TRA President Tweed Roosevelt shared the story of his great grandfather’s association with the Teddy Bear and Jimmie Connelly, New England Chapter president, told his own story of a teddy bear that uplifted his spirits after knee surgery. Joseph Vacanti, MD, Chief of Pediatric Surgery, and W. Hardy Hendren III, MD, the Robert E. Gross Distinguished Professor of Surgery and MGHfC’s first Chief of Pediatric Surgery, were on hand to welcome the TRA with a teddy bear shaped cake.

Arms loaded with plush brown and white bears, BC hockey team members Brian Billett, Chris Kreider, Chris Venti and Steven Whitney, traveled from room to room handing out teddy bears and discussing hockey.
