Elsie Taveras, MD, MPH, is the chief of General Academic Pediatrics at Mass General for Children and executive director of the Kraft Center for Community Health at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her commitment to improving the health of those in underserved populations through research and clinical care is what drives her throughout her career.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy the mentorship of faculty, fellows, students and staff. I am particularly interested in fostering the career development of underrepresented minorities and women. I enjoy working to build collaborative teams and new partnerships to tackle important issues and developing new research or community health-related programs that can broadly impact the health of disadvantaged populations.

What is special about Mass General for Children?

There are many things that make MGfC and Massachusetts General Hospital special. What makes me especially proud to work here is Mass General’s commitment to community health improvement and eliminating disparities. We are one of the only large academic health centers to include an affirmation of our commitment to community health in our mission.
