About Siam Oottamasathien, MD

Siam Oottamasathien, MD, is a board certified Pediatric Urologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.  He completed his Pediatric Urology Fellowship in 2007 from Vanderbilt University.  For over 10 years, he was the Director of Pediatric Urology Basic Science Research at the University of Utah.  His line of investigation involving models, mechanisms, and new generation therapeutics to treat bladder inflammation and pain conditions (Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome) previously set the foundation for obtaining both K and R01 funds from the NIH.  He relocated to Boston in 2017 and is currently the Director of Pediatric Urology Basic Science Research.  Recently his work on radiation-induced proctitis was awarded another 5 year R01 grant from the NIH, in conjunction with his biopolymers collaborators at the University of Utah.  Currently his line of science not only revolves around models and mechanisms that drive various urologic conditions, but to identify innovative biopolymers as future therapeutics and/or optimize drug delivery within the field of urology.  His clinical pediatric urology interests center around complex hypospadias surgery and pediatric stone disease, in addition to general pediatric urologic conditions.
