Psychology Assessment Center marks 15 years

The MGH Psychology Assessment Center(PAC), part of the Department of Psychiatry, celebrates 15 years this month. PAC provides neuropsychological and psychological evaluations to patients with cognitive or emotional difficulties that can result from neurological, psychiatric, developmental or other medical disorders. The center is unique in the comprehensive services it provides, serving patients across the lifespan, says Janet Sherman, PhD, clinical director. “With the growth of MassGeneral Hospital for Children and the aging general population, PAC’s services are in great demand both for pediatric and adult patients,” says Sherman. “The evaluations we provide help clarify cognitive strengths and weaknesses and guide treatment for these patients.” Over the last decade and half, the center has expanded significantly. It now includes eight full-time neuropsychologists who receive referrals from a wide range of specialties – including neurology, psychiatry, primary care, pediatrics and oncology. It also has two nationally recognized training programs and last year initiated an educational group dedicated to helping older adults cope with memory loss.
