What is positional head molding?

Positional head molding is a condition that causes one side of your baby’s head to be flat. Positional head molding is not harmful or dangerous.

Did you know...?

Some people have naturally flatter or rounder heads as part of what they look like. If you are worried or have questions about your baby’s head shape, ask his/her care team.

A note about safe sleep...

Putting your baby to sleep on his/her back is the best way to lower the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). There have been more cases of positional head molding since the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended that parents put their babies to sleep on their backs to lower the risk of SIDS.

Positional head molding is not dangerous. Talk with your baby’s care team if you are worried or have questions about SIDS or positional head molding.
