What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Claire Powers and I am from CT.
How old were you when you came to the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center for treatment?
I was 20 months old.
What was your most memorable moment of treatment?
I don't remember much, but my mom told me that when I was in treatment and the Colts were in the playoffs, I wore cowgirl boots and a Colts cheerleading outfit and I walked around the whole floor.
What are you doing now?
Now I am in the 8th grade and participating in sports such as cross country, basketball, and crew. I also go to sleepaway camp every summer and hang out with my friends a lot.
What accomplishment are you proudest of?
My illness taught me that I could honestly do anything so I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is that I'm fearless.
What do you think would be helpful for future proton therapy patients (especially children/young people) to know? Any advice for them?
I know it's really hard but keep a positive attitude and always try and find the silver lining in things. Also this isn't necessarily advice, but if you have a chance, try the jello in the cafeteria. IT'S REALLY GOOD!!
