Executive Committee on Community Health
Guiding the Community Health Mission of Mass General
Massachusetts General Hospital’s Executive Committee on Community Health is charged with promoting community health improvement and ensuring health equity, leveraging all four components of the hospital’s mission: patient care, teaching, research and community health.
ECOCH was established in 2014 to guide the community health work of the hospital, similar to executive committees for teaching (ECOTE) and research (ECOR) at Mass General.
Hospital leadership, senior management, faculty and staff with community health expertise from throughout the institution come together to provide strategic guidance on community health.
ECOCH developed a three-year strategic plan in 2018, forming three subcommittees focused on: Social Determinants of Health, Access to Care and Race Equity.
Addressing Social Determinants of Health at Mass General
ECOCH produced this video on how clinicians can address patients’ social determinants of health within the clinical encounter. It is shown at orientation for all new employees and has been part of education and training for all Mass General staff.
