Concierge Medicine Welcomes Dr. Angelique Uhlmann

Dr. Uhlmann

The Concierge Medicine Practice at Massachusetts General Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of a new physician, Angelique Uhlmann, MD, JD, who joins in January 2019.

Dr. Uhlmann is a native Bostonian who has also lived in Arizona and Switzerland. She attended Wellesley College, University of Arizona Law School and Tufts Medical School. Dr. Uhlmann completed her internship and residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA, and her Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Fellowship at University of California Hospitals, San Francisco, CA (UCSF). For the past decade, she has practiced at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.

In this Q&A, she shares more about her background and interests:

Tell us a bit about yourself and background.

I was born and raised in the Boston area, and attended Winsor School and Wellesley College. My family moved to Arizona, where I attended law school. As a summer associate during law school, I happened to work on a breast implant lawsuit and became deeply fascinated by medicine and health care. I decided medicine was my calling, much to my family’s surprise!

I love Boston and always wanted to return here, so I worked hard and got into Tufts Medical School. I was chief resident for a year and had a one-year Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Fellowship at USCF. Since then, I’ve worked at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Today, I live close to Mass General’s campus with my family.

What excites you about joining Mass General’s Concierge Medicine practice?

I’ve been practicing now for 10 years, and I feel like all of medicine is changing. It’s become a rather volume-driven business. I’m excited to join Mass General’s team because concierge medicine is exactly the way I want to practice. I love people and spending time with my patients—to really get to know them through their ups and downs and for them to get to know me. Also, I look forward to the ability to help patients find the right Mass General specialist when needed. The renowned breadth and depth of the organization’s research and clinical care is very exciting.

What are your clinical interests?

Obesity medicine is a huge interest area for me. I’ve had my own struggles with weight, including losing 80 lbs. when I was in college, and I really connect with patients on this topic. Thanks to medical advances, there are several options now for patients who have obesity or extra weight.

I’m also interested in cardiovascular health as this was the focus of my UCSF fellowship.

And, I’m interested in women’s health. I see both male and female patients, but as a middle-aged woman myself, I am interested in this unique time in our lives and the psycho-social changes we encounter.

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Personal interests?

I have a nine-and-a-half-year-old daughter and she’s my #1. We have lots of fun together. I’m also an avid skier and reader.

Is there anything else you’d like our Concierge Medicine community to know about you?

I’m excited to start and become part of the Mass General community: to meet new patients, welcome old patients and work alongside the other talented physicians in the Concierge Medicine practice, Dr. Paul Huang and Dr. Tom Fry.
