About Wendy Macias Konstantopoulos, MD, MPH

Dr. Wendy Macias-Konstantopoulos, MD, MPH is Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH). Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos completed a Global Health Leadership Fellowship at MGH and graduated with a degree in Population and International Health from Harvard School of Public Health.  She is Director of the Center for Social Justice and Health Equity in the MGH Emergency Department’s (ED) and founding Executive Director of the MGH Freedom Clinic, an innovative primary and preventative health care clinic for human trafficking victims and survivors that won the 2014 Partnership for Freedom national competition. Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos is particularly interested in public health and population management interventions that address social determinants of disease and improve the health and well-being of underserved patients and communities. She was site PI for a large NIH-funded randomized controlled trial of an ED-based brief intervention for substance use, and is active with current hospital efforts to reduce the unmet health and social needs of patients. In addition, Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos is the 5-term elected Chair of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Committee on Violence Intervention and Prevention and serves various state and federal groups engaging in education and policy advocacy efforts on behalf of trafficked individuals.

Dr. Macias serves as PI on a study on sex trafficking of women and girls in the Boston area, and as site PI on a federally-funded study on ED-based interventions for drug abuse.
