About Mami Iwamoto, MD
Dr. Mami Aiello Iwamoto specializes in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery. Her expertise encompasses all disorders of the eyelids and tear drainage systems. Dr Iwamoto's surgical interests include cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and anophthalmic sockets; surgical management of eyelid tumors; facial nerve disorders; lacrimal obstructions; thyroid eye disease, and medical and cosmetic Botox treatments.
Dr. Iwamoto graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Radcliffe Colleges and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. She completed an Ophthalmology Residency at Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins. In addition, she completed a Fellowship in Oculoplastics & Orbital Reconstruction and a second Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology & Orbital Disease, both at Wilmer Eye Institute. Upon completing her fellowship training, she joined Brigham & Women's Hospital as Associate Chief of Ophthalmology. Dr. Iwamoto joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston as a specialist in Cosmetic & Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery. She is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and is Associate Surgeon at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Iwamoto is an Associate Examiner and test item-writer for the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and is a consultant for the American Academy of Ophthalmology Digital Media Committee. She has been appointed to a Subspecialty Task Force for the ABO. She participates in teaching students at Harvard Medical School and mentoring students at Harvard College..
Dr. Iwamoto lived in Japan and Switzerland prior to moving to the United States. She is a formally-trained artist and pianist. Dr. Iwamoto is an active member of the National Ski Patrol and is a Trainer-Evaluator for Skiing, Toboggan-handling, and Emergency Medical Management. Her other avid interests include off-road mountain biking, inline skating, SCUBA diving, and hiking.
