About Peter Fagenholz, MD

Dr. Fagenholz graduated from the New York University School of Medicine in 2002.  While there he worked in the Laboratory of Developmental Biology and Repair under Dr. Michael Longaker performing studies on the molecular biology of wound healing and cranial suture fusion. In 2009-20010 he moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where he worked as a Specialist Doctor in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.  In 2010 he returned to Boston to complete a fellowship in surgical critical care at the MGH before joining the staff in the Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Critical Care.  Dr. Fagenholz is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is now an Assistant professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Program Director of the MGH General Surgery Residency.

Dr. Fagenholz practices a broad range of general and trauma surgery and provides critical care in MGH's Surgical Intensive Care Units.  He has expertise in surgery for acute pancreatitis and especially minimally invasive necrosectomy and has published significantly on the topic and contributed to current international guidelines.  He also has a special interest in complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
