About Motaz Qadan, MD, PhD
Motaz Qadan, MD, PhD, is a hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical oncologist at the MGH. He is a high volume pancreas and liver specialized surgeon with excellent outcomes. Patient information videos about his common operations are included below:

Dr. Qadan received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Edinburgh Medical School, which is among the top medical schools in Western Europe. He completed surgical residency at Stanford University, where he served as administrative chief resident. Following this, he completed a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York where he served as the educational coordinator.
Dr. Qadan is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd). He is a surgical member of the multidisciplinary cancer team at the MGH.

Research
The Qadan laboratory focuses on the tumor microenvironment in pancreas cancer. Current scientific and translational efforts in his laboratory include the evaluation of the radiosensitizing effects of Losartan and introduction of Fingolimod (sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 antagonist) for endothelial barrier disruption in orthotopic pancreatic tumor models.
Dr. Qadan is also interested in clinical outcomes health services research and leads a large group of researchers who focus on methods to collect, analyze, and improve outcomes related to cancer surgery at the institutional and national level. His projects have earned national recognition in the form of multiple prizes and awards over the last few months.
Dr. Qadan is an active clinical investigator in several high impact clinical trials. He is a principal investigator on a prehabilitation study entitled "Pilot Study of a Multimodal Prehabilitation Pancreatic Cancer Program" where he enrolls patients in an exercise and nutrition program to improve their outcomes during treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Qadan is actively involved in many National societies and holds active leadership roles in several organizations. He has over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles as well as several book chapters and scientific abstracts. Dr. Qadan is an active member of the Gastrointestinal Malignancies Program at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.
