Dr. Joseph Yarze is a member of the faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  Dr. Yarze has also previously held additional certification in Transplant Hepatology.  He is a practicing gastroenterologist and member of the Digestive Healthcare Center at MGH. Dr. Yarze is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.  

In 1991, Dr. Yarze was initially employed as a gastroenterology staff consultant at The Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA. While there, he received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching from Hahnemann Medical School. After spending the subsequent 23 years in private practice at the Gastroenterology Associates of Northern New York, in Glens Falls, NY, Dr. Yarze joined the MGH GI Unit in 2017.

Dr. Yarze has previously served on the ASGE Standards of Practice, Healthcare and Public Policy, and the Budget and Finance committees. He presently serves on the Editorial Review Board for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and he is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Gastroenterology Board Exam Committee. Dr. Yarze has contributed over 200 articles/book chapters/letters and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals and books. Dr. Yarze is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Since transitioning to MGH in 2017, Dr. Yarze has focused his efforts as a clinical educator and he presently serves as the Director of Fellowship Endoscopic Training. He has been the recipient of the 2017 Robert H. Schapiro Teaching Award for Excellence in Inpatient Clinical Teaching and the 2018 Stephen E. Goldfinger Teaching Award for Excellence in Ambulatory Clinical Teaching.

Dr. Yarze matriculated to Rutgers Medical School prior to receiving his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Rutgers College. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA
