Dr. Lorena Bejarano-Pineda is a double fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in minimally invasive techniques in foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine. She completed a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, following the completion of a sports medicine fellowship at Duke University. Dr. Bejarano-Pineda has a particular interest in minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques in the foot and ankle. She also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and percutaneous surgery in foot and ankle at Ramsay Sante - Clinique Blomet (Paris, France), under the guidance of world-renowned surgeons Dr. Joel Vernois and Dr. Olivier Laffenêtre.
Dr. Bejarano-Pineda has combined vast clinical training with academic research throughout her career. She completed two research fellowships at Duke University and University of Illinois at Chicago University between residency and fellowship training. Dr. Bejarano-Pineda bases her clinical practice in continuous academic research, with more than 30 peer reviewed publications. She is an active member of the Foot and Ankle Research and Innovation Lab (FARIL) providing collaboration with clinicians and scientific researchers in innovating diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in the field.
Dr. Bejarano-Pineda's clinical expertise includes the treatment of foot and ankle deformities using minimally invasive methods, which promote speedy recovery and less post-operative pain while also sustaining positive long-term outcomes. Given her sports medicine background, Dr. Bejarano-Pineda's clinical practice also includes sports-related injuries, cartilage, ligament and tendon disorders in the foot and ankle.
Outside of the operating room Dr. Bejarano-Pineda embodies a passion for teaching and leadership. She is a member of several academic societies including AAOS, RJOS, AOSMM and AOFAS and is an active member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). As member of a premiere academic institution in healthcare, she aspires to contribute and promote an inclusive environment for patients and future residents/fellows for years to come.
