Who We Are

Each year, the Mass General Department of Pharmacy recruits top candidates for the Pharmacy Residency Programs. Our residents come from all across the United States, and bring diverse backgrounds and perspectives to the department and institution. Our clinical pharmacy preceptors are experts in their chosen specialty and are dedicated to the continual growth and development of our residents and programs.

Life in Boston

Boston

As a Mass General resident, you will be based in Boston, home of the Red Sox, excellent clam chowder, Dunkin’ Donuts, and some of the nation’s oldest historical attractions. Mass General’s main campus is located in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill, known for its characteristic brownstone buildings and brick sidewalks. Explore the boutiques and eateries on Charles Street and stroll along the Charles River Esplanade. Head over to Newbury Street for high-end shopping. For history buffs, the Freedom Trail takes you to the site of the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere’s house and Faneuil Hall. Just across the Charles River is the city of Cambridge, home to world-renowned institutions Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Kickball

Our residents participate in a variety of optional activities together outside of the hospital, including a local kickball league in Boston Common.

PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residents

Kristen Fernandes ‐ PGY1 ResidentKristen Fernandes

Dr. Fernandes is from Dartmouth, MA. She obtained both her undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Connecticut. Her practice interests include pediatrics, critical care and emergency medicine. She enjoys going to the beach, trying new restaurants throughout Boston and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Fernandes plans to pursue a PGY-2 in her area of interest after completion of the residency year.

Kaitlyn Grieves ‐ PGY1 ResidentKaitlyn Grieves

Dr. Grieves is from Peoria, Illinois and graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy with her Doctor of Pharmacy. Her practice interests include transplant, cardiology and infectious disease. She enjoys exploring Boston, traveling, cooking and spending time on the water. Dr. Grieves plans to pursue a PGY2 in her area of interest after completion of the residency year.

Melissa Jeghers ‐ PGY1 ResidentMelissa Jeghers

Dr. Melissa Jeghers is from Carver, Massachusetts. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of New Hampshire and graduated from Northeastern University with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Her practice interests include pediatrics, emergency response, antimicrobial stewardship and harm reduction. She enjoys running, baking and getting outdoors with her dogs. Dr. Jeghers plans to pursue a PGY-2 in neonatal and pediatric pharmacy after completion of the residency year.

Ju Hee Kim ‐ PGY1 ResidentJu Hee Kim

Dr. Kim is from Los Angeles, California. She received both her undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Northeastern University. Her practice interests include solid organ transplant, cardiology and critical care. She enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Kim plans to pursue a PGY-2 in a specialty of her interest after completing her residency year.

Kathryn Rechenberg ‐ PGY1 ResidentKathryn Rechenberg

Dr. Kathryn Rechenberg is from St. Louis, Missouri. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Her practice interests include oncology, transplant, critical care and academia. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, baking, exploring the Northeast and trying to find the best donut in Boston. Dr. Rechenberg plans to pursue a PGY-2 in a specialty of her interest after completion of the residency year.

Nicholas Petrucelli ‐ PGY1 ResidentNicholas Petrucelli

Dr. Petrucelli is originally from Southbury, Connecticut. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston and his practice interests include both emergency medicine and critical care. He enjoys going on hikes, swimming and traveling. Dr. Petrucelli plans to pursue a PGY-2 in his area of interest following completion of the residency year.

Sarah Valiante ‐ PGY1 ResidentSarah Valiante

Dr. Valiante is from Levittown, Pennsylvania. She obtained her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Pennsylvania State University and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University School of Pharmacy. Her practice interests include infectious diseases, solid-organ transplant and internal medicine. She enjoys running, baking and playing with her cats and dog. Dr. Valiante plans on pursuing a PGY2 in her area of interest after completion of her PGY1 residency year.

Non-Traditional PGY-1 Residents

Austin Park – NTPGY1Austin Park

Dr. Austin Park is from Somerville, Massachusetts. He completed both his undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Northeastern University. Additionally, he completed a Post-Master’s Certificate in Health Informatics. His practice interests include pharmacy informatics, psychiatry and neurology. He enjoys video games, cooking and spending time with his dogs. Dr. Park plans apply his PGY1 experiences as an overnight pharmacist in a large academic medical center.

Adele Ye – NTPGY1Adele Ye

Dr. Ye is from Houston, Texas. She obtained her undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Prior to residency, she was working at MGH as a central operations pharmacist. Her practice interests include critical care and pediatrics. She enjoys running, watching movies and traveling. Dr. Ye plans to pursue a PGY-2 in her area of interest after completion of the residency program.

PGY-1/2 HSPAL Residents

Antonia Akrap – PGY1/2Antonia Akrap

Dr. Akrap is from St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Kansas and is completing her Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with specialization in Health-System Pharmacy Administration through the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her practice interests include pharmacy operations, clinical practice management and advocacy. Dr. Akrap enjoys exploring the city of Boston, reading and going to concerts. She also plans to pursue a career in pharmacy leadership at an academic medical center after completing her PGY-2.

Sydney Tu – PGY1/2Sydney Tu

Dr. Tu is from Southern California. She obtained both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with an emphasis in Health-System Pharmacy Administration through the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her practice interests include management in ambulatory care and transitions of care. She enjoys traveling, trying new cuisines and creating art pieces. Dr. Tu will be continuing as a PGY-2 in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership resident after the completion of the residency year.

PGY2 Pharmacy Residents

Meagan Conrath – TransplantMeagan Conrath – Transplant

Dr. Conrath is from Lombard, Illinois. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Her interest in solid organ transplant includes patient education, transitions of care and management of transplantation complications. She enjoys hiking, going for walks around Boston, traveling and trying new restaurants. Dr. Conrath plans to obtain BCTXP certification and pursue a career as a solid organ transplant clinical pharmacy specialist at an academic medical center with the opportunity to participate in precepting and research after completion of the residency year.

Jessica Mason – Emergency MedicineJessica Mason – Emergency Medicine

Dr. Mason is from Syracuse, New York, and graduated from the University at Buffalo with her Doctor of Pharmacy. Her practice interests include toxicology and antimicrobial stewardship. In her free time, she enjoys playing the guitar, painting, running and trying new food in Boston. Dr. Mason plans to pursue a career as an emergency medicine pharmacist with opportunities for teaching after completing her residency.

Miranda Monk – Infectious DiseaseMiranda Monk – Infectious Disease

Dr. Miranda Monk is from Bangor, Maine. She graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Rhode Island. She completed her PGY-1 residency at Kaiser Permanente San Diego in California. She has practiced for two years as a clinical pharmacist at Massachusetts General Hospital prior to transitioning into her new role as a non-traditional PGY-2 Infectious Disease Pharmacy Resident. Her practice interests include human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and antibiotic stewardship. She enjoys working out, running distance and being a cat mom to Finnley and Little Joey.

Tia Bullard – Critical CareTia Bullard – Critical Care

Tia is from Oswego, New York. She obtained her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from SUNY Oswego and graduated from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She completed her PGY1 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, PA. Her practice interests include ICU delirium, infectious disease and sedation practices. She enjoys group fitness classes, spending time outdoors and exploring new cities. Tia plans to pursue a career as a critical care specialist after completion of the residency year.

Sean O’Brien – Critical CareSean O’Brien – Critical Care

Dr. O’Brien is from Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences - Boston and his Master of Public Health degree from Des Moines University. He completed his PGY-1 residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He joined the United States Army in 2010, deployed to Afghanistan and is currently serving as a Major in the Medical Service Corps. His practice interests include trauma, battlefield medicine and public health. He enjoys traveling, reading, walking on the beach and running. Dr. O’Brien plans to obtain the BCCCP certification and continue his career in the Army at a Military Treatment Facility after completion of the residency year.

Jack Malespini – OncologyJack Malespini – Oncology

Dr. Malespini is from Rocky Hill, Connecticut. He obtained his undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Connecticut. He completed his PGY-1 residency at Massachusetts General Hospital with practice interests in hematology and oncology. He enjoys working out, eating new foods and golfing. Dr. Malespini plans to pursue a career as a hematology/oncology clinical specialist at an academic medical center after completion of the residency year.
