Miriam A. Bredella, MD, MBA

Dr. Bredella is a Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and a musculoskeletal radiologist at Mass General Hospital where she also serves as Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs. She is passionate about mentoring and career development. In the Department of Radiology, she established a department-wide mentoring program for junior faculty, a Radiology Leadership Academy (which supports physicians and non-physicians in leadership roles), and a management and leadership curriculum for radiologists. She also led initiatives to fight physician burnout

Dr. Bredella is a NIH-funded researcher, focusing on the effects of different fat depots on bone metabolism and metabolic risk across the weight spectrum. She is the co-director of the Harvard KL2/Catalyst Medical Research Investigator Training Program where she mentors clinical translational researchers across all Harvard hospitals and serves on the national NIH Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program Steering Committee. She is an active member of the Diversity and Inclusion Task Forces at Mass General and Harvard Medical School and designed successful initiatives for increasing diversity in research operations.

Mary L. Bouxsein, PhD

Dr. Bouxsein is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of the High-Resolution Peripheral Computed Tomography Core Facility at Mass General Hospital. She is also a faculty member in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program where she directs a course in Musculoskeletal Pathophysiology. Dr. Bouxsein has an extensive track record of mentorship of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. She received the A. Clifford Barger Award for Excellence in Mentorship from Harvard Medical School and the Thomas A. McMahon Award for Outstanding Mentorship from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program.

Cristina R. Ferrone, MD

Dr. Ferrone is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Director of the Surgical Liver Program. She is the principal investigator of a large national clinical trial for pancreatic cancer and has obtained NIH funding for her translational research effort. She has been an active member of the Frigoletto Committee since its inception. As part of the Frigoletto Committee she started the women in surgery connectivity series. Dr. Ferrone has been the Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency since 2006. She has mentored many junior faculty, residents, research fellows, medical and high school students. She is currently an elected physician member of the MGPO Board of Trustees.

Marcia B. Goldberg, MD

Dr. Goldberg is a Professor of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School, Director of Research Program Development in the Department of Medicine (DOM), Director of Research in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Mass General Hospital, Associate Program Director for Research for the Mass General Brigham Combined Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program, and Director of the NIH-funded Harvard-wide adult training program in Infectious Disease and Basic Microbiological Mechanisms. She has a strong track record of providing career development guidance to post doctoral fellows and other trainees. In the DOM, she launched a career development initiative designed to provide guidance and community for junior faculty and senior trainees on career advancement, specifically on strategies for achieving independent R level funding.

Darshan H. Mehta, MD, MPH

Dr. Mehta is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Medical Director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Mass General Hospital, and Education Director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.  His educational and research interests include curricular development in complementary and integrative medical therapies, mind/body educational interventions in health professions training, and promotion of professionalism in medical trainees. Dr. Mehta sees patients in a consultative role for use of complementary and integrative medical therapies, as well as mind/body interventions for stress management and stress reduction.  He is also active in the Massachusetts Medical Society and is a member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Mehta is a diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Medicine and has completed professional training in mindfulness-based stress reduction at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Louisa G. Sylvia, PhD

Dr. Sylvia is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a staff psychologist and Associate Director at Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation at Mass General Hospital and the Director of Health and Wellness at the Red Sox Foundation. Her major research interests are developing resilience and wellness programs for veterans and individuals with mood disorders. Dr. Sylvia has authored the Complete Wellness Workbook for Bipolar Disorder, co-authored a workbook for Bipolar II Disorder and presented her work at numerous local, national and international conferences. She assisted in creating MoodNetwork, a patient-powered research network, funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Initiative. MoodNetwork brings together thousands of individuals with mood disorders to improve their overall wellness.

Bakhos A. Tannous, PhD

Dr. Tannous is a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Experimental Therapeutics Unit at Mass General Hospital. He is a member of the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and acts as Co-Director of the Molecular Neurogenetics Unit-East and Director of the Mass General Viral Vector Production Facility. He is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Mentor Award from the Department of Neurology and Mentor of the Year from the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center for his commitment in training underrepresented/underprivileged students. Dr. Bakhos is a member of many national and international committees including Neurology Research Council and Committee of Fundamental Research at Mass General.

Ms. Leyne has been the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) Director since 2021 and Senior Director of the Mass General Research Institute (MGRI) since 2018. In 2020, her role was expanded to include the Center for Faculty Development. 

Anne S. Levy, PhD

Dr. Levy was hired in October 2020 to serve in a newly created role at the CFD, working with all Directors to initiate, grow, and maintain programs, with a particular emphasis on building a strong mentoring culture at MGH and supporting faculty through the HMS promotion process. She served as Manager of Faculty Affairs for Harvard Ophthalmology from 2016-2020. Before joining the HMS community, she was a high school literature teacher and college counselor, in France and in Boston. She holds an MA in French from Middlebury College and a PhD in American Studies from Yale University.

Lauren E. Olson, MPH

Ms. Olson is a Program Coordinator for the Center for Faculty Development (CFD) with a focus on the Office for Clinical Careers, Office for Well-Being, and Office for Women's Careers. She earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Boston University. She brings experience with program coordination, strong skills in qualitative research, website development and maintenance, as well as event planning.

Karan A. Patel, MHA

Mr. Patel is a Program Coordinator for the Center for Faculty Development (CFD) with a focus on the Office for Research Careers, Graduate Student Division, and Postdoctoral Division. He earned his Master of Health Administration (MHA) from Columbia University, NY. He first joined MGH as an administrative intern in MGH’s Research Institute. His role has since increased to his current position in the Center for Faculty Development.

Brenda I. Vega

Ms. Vega is the Office Manager for the Center for Faculty Development (CFD). She has worked at the Mass General Hospital since January 2000 where she began as a patient care coordinator. She then worked in a research laboratory office before starting at the Office for Women's Careers (OWC) in 2002. Her role in the office has expanded since she began at the OWC, as it has also grown and expanded through the years to include the CFD, ORC and its many other offices and divisions. Ms. Vega brings a lot of experience and accomplishments to the CFD, including graphic design, project management, organizational skills, leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills. She earned an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design and Multimedia from Westwood College Online and is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Business Studies at Cambridge College. She is fluent in both English and Spanish which adds to her repertoire.
