All over the world people have joined together to support Haiti. One local example of this generosity is a donation from the students and faculty of St. John School, a local Catholic school in the North End. The group recently raised $1,400 for the MGH Haitian Relief Fund.

Robin Horgan, a part-time pharmacy technician at the MGH and an eighth-grade teacher at the school, helped organize the fundraiser.

"I told our principal, Sister Eileen Harvey, about the fund that we set up at the hospital," says Horgan. "She agreed that it would be nice to contribute to the fund of an organization that is so vital to our own community."

On Jan. 26, she and several students presented a check for the MGH Haitian Relief Fund to Jim Thompson, vice president for MGH Development, and Katelyn Quynn, MGH deputy chief development officer. Established by hospital leadership and coordinated by the MGH Development Office, the fund supports MGH-affiliated relief efforts, MGH employees with family in Haiti and other organizations providing aid. To date, more than $123,000 has been raised.
