In General

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers recently awarded a CIMIT-supported research team from the MGH and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) a first place award, worth $10,000, at its annual Innovation Showcase. The group – headed by Rajiv Gupta, MD, PhD, of the MGH Heart Center and Neuroradiology Division; and Alex Slocum, PhD, of MIT – was honored for its work on Robopsy, a remotely controlled robot that aids in image-guided percutaneous medical procedures. The device inserts a tiny probe into a tumor or other abnormality visible on an imaging study,
allowing clinicians to perform both diagnosis and treatment with pinpoint accuracy.
