About the Primary Care Urgent Access Center
The Massachusetts General Hospital Primary Care Urgent Access Center offers same-day care to all patients with a Mass General primary care physician or nurse practitioner. The Primary Care Urgent Access Center is open 8 am-8 pm on weekdays and 8 am-4 pm on weekends, and offers both virtual and in-person appointments.
Visits are by appointment only. The easiest way to access same day care is to call your primary care practice. They will offer you an appointment in their clinic, or coordinate an appointment for you in the Primary Care Urgent Access Center if their appointments are all full. After hours, your practice's on-call team can also coordinate an in-person appointment if needed.
Insurance & Billing
The Primary Care Urgent Access Center accepts most major health insurance carriers, managed care plans and Medicaid. If your health plan requires authorization, call your primary care physician prior to receiving care, to arrange for your physician’s office to send an insurance referral. Copayments are accepted at the time of service.
The Primary Care Urgent Access Center provides medical care to patients regardless of insurance coverage. Please note: The Primary Care Urgent Access Center is a licensed hospital facility, and therefore you will not be billed under an urgent care benefit structure. Our visits are processed as "outpatient hospital visits," and this may result in higher copayments and deductibles. Please review your health insurance coverage or call your health insurance provider to better understand out-of-pocket expenses.
Uninsured or underinsured patients might be eligible for financial assistance through Mass General’s Office of Financial Services. Please call them directly at 617-726-2191.
