How donors make a difference

Your Support Can Make a Difference

With more than 1,000 physicians in ten sub-specialty divisions, Massachusetts General Hospital’s Department of Medicine has a historic opportunity to transform medicine and health care. But we need your help. With decreased government funding, your gift can make a real difference in the Department of Medicine’s ability to pursue the most current innovations in treatment, care and prevention.

The Department of Medicine has already led the way in several research and patient care advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Crohn’s disease, the transformation of primary care and the understanding and prevention of diabetes. Your gift will help to advance these findings and many more—leading to better health for everyone.

The Department of Medicine Funding Priorities for the Next Decade:

Investing in the next generation of scientists

The Department of Medicine’s Transformative Scholars Awards aim to attract the best and brightest physician-scientists to Mass General early in their career. These awards will enable the Department of Medicine to nurture and retain the next generation of talented clinician-scientists and create a stimulating and supportive environment that encourages transformative research and patient care.

Linking discovery to patient care

Traditionally it takes decades for discoveries in the laboratory to be translated to direct patient care. The goal of the Department of Medicine’s Translational Science Programs is to cut this time down and rapidly move potentially transformative research findings into clinical care.

Advancing personalized care to improve population health

The Department of Medicine’s Transformative Centers will help to break down silos in health care to deliver more coordinated, personalized care. Focusing on key diseases such as diabetes, arrhythmia and lung disease, these Transformative Centers will bring together primary care physicians, specialists and researchers to improve the efficiency of care. The goal is to implement this coordinated approach across entire communities, reducing healthcare costs and improving the health of whole populations.
