Jaff to lead care redesign

Michael R. Jaff, DO, medical director of the Vascular Center, Vascular Diagnostic Laboratory and Vascular Ultrasound Core Laboratory, has been named the new leader of MGH/MGPO care redesign, part of the Partners-wide Strategic Initiative focused on ways to improve quality and efficiency of care.

"Care redesign is a vital part of the changing way that we care for patients to control the total cost of care," says MGPO Chairman and CEO David F. Torchiana, MD. "Dr. Jaff will play a critical role in ensuring that these programs succeed and, when appropriate, coordinate with the Partners effort."

Having served as the lead of the neuroendovascular care redesign team, Jaff is already well versed in the effort and knows the challenges involved, including the importance of defining scope, building interdisciplinary coordination and using available data creatively. In his new role, Jaff will oversee the implementation of clinical care recommendations for the 15 condition-specific areas that have already been approved by leadership. These include colon cancer; coronary disease - specifically acute myocardial infarction and coronary artery bypass graft surgery; diabetes; primary care; and stroke. Other areas are planned for review in the near future.

"I am excited for this new opportunity and to help the MGH and MGPO deliver more integrated, cost-effective, patient- and family-centered care," Jaff said. "I look forward to working with other services and departments across MGH to focus on new, efficient ways to approach patient care delivery."
