McCance Center for Brain Health

About the McCance Center

Unlike heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes, our healthcare system treats brain disease reactively rather than proactively. Changing this paradigm is the core of our mission.

    Changing the Brain Care Paradigm

More than 3 out of 5 American adults will be affected by brain disease in their lifetime. Yet, there are few treatments that can stop a brain disorder once it takes hold. Unlike heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes, our health care system treats brain disease reactively rather than proactively. Changing this paradigm is the core of our mission.

Imagine a world where brain health is part of healthcare from the first prenatal visit, where schools use standardized tools for brain health education and assessment, and where a visit to the doctor’s office not only includes a brain check-up but can also lead to preventive treatments for those who are found to be at risk for brain disease. Imagine how lives would be saved, enhanced and extended. This is what we see, and what we’re passionately working to achieve.

    Our Mission

The McCance Center's mission is to identify and study the indicators of brain health, to discover and develop the interventions that prevent brain disease and to convene a borderless community of knowledge and tools essential for implementing and integrating these indicators and interventions into primary care.

    Our Work

We are a research center, a clinical program and an energizing force for the global community guided by the recognition that the brain’s complexity demands a vast array of disciplines and tools in order to develop and deploy the most effective approaches that will be of greatest benefit to all of us who are at risk for brain disease.

    Support The McCance Center

We have embraced a radically new approach to preventing brain disease and promoting brain health across the lifespan. We convene the best in research and clinical care in order to identify and integrate crucial scientific discoveries that to reduce the incidence and suffering of brain disease around the globe.
