Nursing and Patient Care Services

For over 200 years, Massachusetts General Hospital nurses and health professions colleagues have been pioneers in clinical practice.

Nursing and Patient Care Services represents the largest group of clinicians caring for patients at Massachusetts General Hospital — more than 7,000 professionals across seven care disciplines, including nurses, occupational, physical and respiratory therapists, speech/language pathologists, social workers and spiritual caregivers.

Together, their relationship-based approach to care means they get to know each patient and family to provide collaborative care that is tailored to the patient’s unique needs. In addition, our nurses and health professions teams maintain the highest clinical standards, continually build new skills and knowledge through education, and translate the latest evidence-driven research into practices.

  • Mass General leads the world in attracting and retaining a diverse nursing and health professions workforce.
  • There is opportunity to continuously advance nurses’ formal and continuing education, learning the latest techniques to care for patients, while developing their own innovative ideas and research for improving patient care.
  • Leadership and staff have the support and resources to pursue their interests in serving local neighborhoods facing social barriers to health, as well as our global health communities.
