The Midwifery Service is a vital part of the Obstetrics Program at Mass General.
Nurse-midwives at Mass General provide family planning and contraception services, and prenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum care for those patients who are considered to have low- or moderate-risk pregnancies. Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Monahan, CNM, MPH, is a staff nurse-midwife in the Midwifery Division in the Department of OB/GYN at Mass General. Her clinical interests include medical complications and miscarriage management in the ambulatory setting, as well as reducing racial and ethnic health disparities. She is also committed to care of underserved communities. She sees patients on our Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units, as well as in obstetrics triage. Beth completed her midwifery education at Boston University School of Public Health, and her undergraduate training in nursing at Boston University.
