Your nurse and/or surgeon will give you instructions before you go home after surgery. They will review them with you and your escort, family member, or friend as well as give you a written copy

If you have questions about your discharge instructions or medications, please call your surgeon’s office at the number provided on your discharge paperwork. However, on the day after your surgery, you will also be contacted by the Mass General OSC team via text message to respond to a text-based survey. In the survey, you can indicate if you would like to receive a call from the OSC staff. Remember, you can always call to speak to a recovery room nurse at the OSC. We are available Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If you had surgery in the Blue Building, please call 781-487-6950. If you had surgery in Green Building, please call 781-487-2900. If it is a weekend, holiday, or after hours, please contact your surgeon’s office.
You may get a prescription for pain medication from your surgeon. Do not drive while taking prescription pain medication. Do not drink alcohol while taking prescription pain medication.

Conveniently located at the junction of Route 95 and the Mass Pike, the OSC at Mass General Waltham is a multidisciplinary practice that provides general surgery, surgical oncology, gynecology, urology, interventional radiology, and additional gastrointestinal procedures, such as colonoscopies and endoscopies, on an outpatient basis.
