The following two videos were put together by the Department of Anesthesia to answer questions patients may have before their surgical procedure. The videos are broken into different segments, which you can see by clicking the menu icon in the top right corner of the screen. You can skip around to the segments you find most pertinent. The type of anesthesia you receive can vary depending on the procedure you will undergo. For example, patients undergoing total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder, ankle), most likely will receive general anesthesia. Whereas patients undergoing some foot procedures will receive an ankle block, which is a type of regional anesthesia. If you have questions about what anesthesia is best for your unique Orthopaedic case, you can ask your Orthopaedic surgeon about it.
